Virginia Governor Approves Cash Option
For Past Lottery Winners

Richmond, VA (February 2004): Since July 1, 2003, many Virginia lottery winners have taken advantage of HB 1564 that was signed into law by Governor Mark Warner last summer that changed the State’s lottery law. The new law gives past lottery winners the right to trade their remaining payments for upfront cash.

The new law now makes it possible for past winners to raise immediate cash by pledging or selling their rights to receive future payments. Winners can assign all or just a portion of their remaining payments to fit each winner’s own specific cash needs.
